Goal-Setting with Intention

You have goals – great. Take it a little deeper. What are the intentions beneath your goals?

The first time I heard about setting intentions was from Oprah. I didn’t fully grasp the concept at the time.

After spending many years discovering my True Self, I now realize intention is everything. My goals used to be tied to the obvious next step rather than what energized me and felt authentically aligned. It’s no wonder I felt burnout trying to achieve them or in many ways gave up and never did. Many of our goals are tied to the status quo. Start a job in a career and climb the ladder, but often our path isn’t linear and we discover our gifts and make new goals when we begin to follow the things that light us up.

Underneath intention is the question of why. The result of understanding our intention is the difference between flow and hustle. Energized and burned out. Contentment and frustration.

As I look ahead to 2023 and the goals I want to achieve, I look at the intention beneath the goals. Are my goals conditioned by society or authentically aligned? Is my ego driving it or my True Self?

Sometimes I find what I thought was important is not when I evaluate my intention. Often when I focus on intention, my goals become more about the state of being I want to embody rather than material things I want to achieve or acquire.

The interesting thing is when I focus more on my state of being and living within my values, the other things seem to appear.

I encourage you to dig a little deeper as you set your goals for this upcoming year. Ask yourself: What’s the intention beneath the goals?
