The Journey of Discovering My True Self
Sometimes we don’t see ourselves for who we are and who we can become. Our view of self is often shaped by external validation rather than our own internal knowing. We absorb messages and beliefs. We attune to what is said and observed, whether it is explicit or implicit, and this is who we become. We become the stories others tell us, and then in turn, we tell the same stories. We follow in the footsteps of others, rather than heeding what calls us. The power to create our own story and our own sense of self is life’s journey.
Along the way, we may be lucky. Maybe we have the right people to breathe life into our potential and we absorb beliefs and messages that allow us to step in our own unique greatness.
Often though, we receive messages that perpetuate status quo, check a box, and comply to make the current system churn. We become comfortable with what we know even if it doesn’t work for us and for others. However, one day, we wake up to find ourselves having followed all the rules, yet living a life uninspired and unfulfilled. The missing link is your True Self.
Reacquainting with your True Self requires you to unpack and rebuild your own truths, to create new paradigms, and live a life where you show up as you. It requires you to think for yourself. It is an intentional decision to embark on the journey to discover your purpose and live an impactful life you are proud of -- where we do well and do good. It requires you to challenge, question, and ultimately, change. It involves revealing and understanding the patterns and stories that run your life, often unconsciously, and cultivating the skillset to create new patterns and stories that align with who you want to be.
I have always had a deep curiosity to understand myself and others. How did I get this way? How did we get this way? What are the experiences, messages, beliefs, and actions that shape our lives and potentially connect or disconnect us from True Self?
The True Self workshop and roadmap is my own personal journey. It’s a journey of unpacking how I became someone disconnected from my own passion and desire to live a life more aligned with who I am uniquely designed to be. The courage to look at myself and to leave behind what doesn’t serve me and craft new ways of being is the most powerful work I have ever done.
I am a big believer in the saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” Not sure who this quote is attributed to as my in depth internet search brought up various results, but what I do know is it proves itself to be true over and over in my life when I choose to pay attention.
This workshop is the curated version of what took me a decade to discover on my own. It’s the roadmap to guide you toward your True Self. I continue to revisit the exercises in the workshops when I need to reboot or find something new to unpack because the journey of self discovery never ends. All I know for sure is I am committed to my own growth and truth more than anything else. It’s honestly the only way I know to do life well. It’s the only way I can ensure I don’t stay stuck and unhappy. The exercises have revealed confidence, purpose, and fulfillment that I didn’t even know was missing or that was available to me.
Over the past year, I have shared some of this work with clients and even friends. There is nothing more energizing than watching people use it to inspire their own becoming.
When we begin to understand who we are apart from what the world tells us we need to be, when we seek internal validation and our inner knowing to guide our path, then we become the authentic leaders, coworkers, friends, and family members that we long to be.
It’s what the world needs. For each of us to discover, cultivate, and transform into our True Self.
Begin by asking yourself: Who are you? Who do you want to be? How can you begin to close the gap between the two?
